Pricing
There are two purchase options:
1. to take it as-is: working well, and with a tech report, but with some improvements that could be made. $75k
2. to buy it following a full recap/service which will take 2-3 months and cost approximately $10-12k more (the console is with our client's tech and ready to begin this work).

API1604:
Has had a full tech report completely as of six weeks ago by a good tech in Nashville who followed my tech's prescription plan for getting test results.
Known faults are few - scratchy pots here and there - (listed in results) and I believe the power supply minimum should be recapped in full if not the entire desk.
As it sits now it is working 100% from a functionality perspective but I think a full recap would improve headroom and noise test numbers literally across the board. My plan is to have this desk worked on by my tech before selling to make it "perfect" or as perfect as a vintage console can get.
Cosmetically it's as good as they can be minus one small chip - I sent a photo of the meter bridge showing this - it's about the size of the pad to my pinky finger.
It is completely original minus an ABC monitor out mod that was done and some minor recapping that looks like it too needs recapping now.
The board is loaded with the following modules:
550A (not A-1 modules) x6 for channel amps
550 x4 for channel amps
554x4 for channel amps
560A x2 for channel amps
553 x4 (on the group modules)
525 compressors x2
oscillator module x1
Layout:
16 channels amps
4 submaster (groups)
2 mix master
Reason for sale is simply we don't have space for a B room now.
It is now with my tech ready for him to begin a full recap and deep clean and then re-evaluate and go from there. So there are two directions we can go here. There's a report which I already had sent you before along with photos which reflect the current condition of the desk OR I could follow through with having my tech dive as deep as he goes and make it perfect -- along with arranging patch bays etc. So there's a huge swing in value and price there.
Cosmetically it's as good as it gets and it is totally original to my knowing also according to the tech that did the report before I purchased the desk. My tech will take some time with the desk; I'd plan on 2-3 months before it'd be ready to ship. He likes to really let things burn in and get hot.
SHIPPING: Brokerage sale so shipping is arranged between the buyer and seller direct (but we can usually help with access to trusted couriers etc). This item is located in USA. If you need an estimate then get in touch.
Brokerage Sale Information:
This is a brokerage sale by Soundgas on behalf of the owner. The console is not at Soundgas and we have (sadly) not had a chance to test it ourselves. We only work in this way with trusted clients who understand their gear. That said, it is the buyer's responsibility to confirm details provided in the listing by the seller are to their satisfaction - if you have any questions at all please let us know before we arrange shipping.
As a brokerage sale, payment will be made to us but will be held in escrow for the seller until the buyer confirms satisfactory receipt of the item. The buyer has 14 days from receipt to raise any concerns, after which we will release funds to the seller. Full terms available on request.
Tax (VAT)
Some of our gear will have VAT at 20% added in the UK/EU, but a lot of it won't. This should hopefully clarify the situation but if you have any questions then please get in touch.
ITEMS WITH VAT:
- These items will have two prices visible: with and without the tax.
- If you are buying in the UK/EU you will receive an invoice showing the tax component.
- If you are buying these items outside the EU when you get to the check out and enter your shipping location you will be charged the ex-VAT price.
- VAT-free sales are also possible to businesses within the EU with a valid VAT number. You will need to contact us in order to buy via this means.
ITEMS WITHOUT VAT:
- Much of what we sell is classified as "Second Hand Goods" and so while we still pay some tax, there is no recoverable/deductible component for sales to any part of the world.
- So, the price you see is the price you pay wherever you are.
ALSO NOTE:
- Shipping charges are also subject to VAT at 20% within the UK/EU - this is included within the prices you see for shipping to those areas - it is not shown separately in the cart but will be shown on the VAT invoice you receive with your goods.
SHIPPING
We are very experienced at packing and shipping valuable and sensitive gear worldwide. Binson Echorecs, large valve amps, vintage synths, rare racks, and even a CS-80 or two - you name it, we've sent it and it has arrived in one piece and ready to play.
SHIPPING DISCOUNT ON MULTIPLE ITEMS:
We keep it simple: if you buy more than one item you only pay the shipping on the item that has the highest shipping cost. This is the same no matter how many items you buy together (so the more you buy together, the bigger your shipping discount). If you check all the items out all together this will be calculated automatically at checkout. However, if you make an order and then wish to add to it before it ships please get in touch and we will refund the shipping on the item(s) that are cheaper to ship.
Note that this also allows you to purchase add on items such as transformers and other accessories, and also t-shirts and other merch, without paying any extra shipping on them.

Yes! If you want to use this option either get in touch before you purchase, or contact us afterwards and we will just refund you the shipping. Note that collection is by appointment only and only during weekday office hours.

It is a fact that, with vintage items, there are going to be times when gear arrives in need of some adjustment or calibration, and some times a piece of gear that was working 100% just chooses the day after arriving for a new fault to develop. However, having been working with sensitive vintage gear for many years, we are very experienced at dealing with these occurrences and will always work with you and get the problem solved as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Note that we have have not entered automatic shipping for every country. The countries we ship to most often will have shipping rates and we are in the process of adding more shipping fees to the check out process. Which carriers do we use?
We usually use Royal Mail, UPS and DPD/Interlink - it depends on the item and destination as to which is the most economical. If you have a preference then we should be able to accommodate it (but we may need to pass on any additional costs) - just let us know what you need.
