This is the Starla - a clever and well-featured tap tremolo in a compact box. Analogue tremolo with digital control.
Dawner Prince in Croatia got our attention because they made another Binson pedal - the "Boonar" - and naturally we needed to try one. The result of that was that we had to have it. Boonar pedals are now in stock. From talking to them and looking at their gear we really like how these guys think and so we're taking on some other interesting pedals that they do - as well as this pedal we've also taken on their excellent Viberator - a stereo Uni-vibe-type phase shifter
We'll post more info and our own demo once we've had a proper play with it, but in the meantime here below is what Zoran at Dawner Prince has to say about it and a video demo. If you have any questions please get in touch.
==================
Starla is a synthesis of two precisely combined electronics. It is a superb sound quality analog tremolo controlled by a versatile digital tap tempo microprocessor via optical technology – a light source and photocell.
FEATURES:
Depth
On minimum settings, Starla can be used as a signal booster. Increasing the depth control, increases the tremolo effect in your signal; from light shimmering, through mild transparent-traditional, all the way to a deep swings and ‘machine gun-like’ sounds. Thanks to a huge depth range, this tremolo is able to chop up any signal sent in or out of it. It is very useful when put in front of high gain amps or pedals as it can cut the sound down to a dead silence.
Speed
There are 3 ways to set the speed of the tremolo effect: by using a speed knob, tap tempo footswitch or control voltage/remote tap switch via Sync port. Speed is affected by the position of the Multiplier (1/3/2) toggle switch. If the Multiplier switch is set at a higher rate, speed knobs sweep will change as well.
Waveform
Starla utilizes eight different waveforms, including a random one. Combining every waveform with Duty trim potentiometer produces numerous wave shapes for you to explore. Duty trimmer pot modifies the duty cycle of all waveforms except Random.
Volume
We added volume control for two reasons: first to avoid a noticeable drop in volume when effect is engaged, which is a problem most tremolos have, and second to be able to use Starla as an excellent volume booster without adding any distortion to the signal when Depth control is on minimum setting.
Sync port
This port allows Starla to communicate with other devices. Depending on how the internal jumper is set up (remove the backplate to reach the jumper), Starla can send control signal to synchronize other devices to its’ LFO rate or it can accept control signal to be synchronized by other devices. It can also accept remote tap foot switch.
Tap tempo
Starla’s tap tempo microprocessor calculates tempo by taking the last two user taps so it plays in sync with your music. You can also choose different tap to tremolo rate ratios using 1/3/2 Multiplier switch: 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3. Once a tempo has been tapped in, Multiplier switch serves as an in-time speed control.
True bypass
Starla Tap Tempo Tremolo is equipped with microprocessor driven true bypass relay switching system. Holding down Status footswitch during the power up allows you to preset whether the effect powers up in effect-on or effect-bypass mode.
We are very proud of our Starla™ Tap Tempo Tremolo effect pedal and we believe it will inspire you to be even more creative in making music! Enjoy!

- If you are buying in the UK/EU you will receive an invoice showing the tax component.

SHIPPING
We are very experienced at packing and shipping valuable and sensitive gear worldwide. Binson Echorecs, large valve amps, vintage synths, rare racks, and even a CS-80 or two - you name it, we've sent it and it has arrived in one piece and ready to play.

MORE SHIPPING INFO:
The shipping prices for our gear vary considerably depending on the type of gear, value and destination. To see shipping costs put the item you are interested in the cart and then either use the shipping estimator or go into the check out process. Or just contact us and we'll tell you what you need to know.
It is a fact that, with vintage items, there are going to be times when gear arrives in need of some adjustment or calibration, and some times a piece of gear that was working 100% just chooses the day after arriving for a new fault to develop. However, having been working with sensitive vintage gear for many years, we are very experienced at dealing with these occurrences and will always work with you and get the problem solved as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Note that we have have not entered automatic shipping for every country. The countries we ship to most often will have shipping rates and we are in the process of adding more shipping fees to the check out process. But if you are looking at an item that doesn't have the fee information you need then please use the contact page or call on +44 1773 856475.
Which carriers do we use?
We usually use Royal Mail, UPS and DPD/Interlink - it depends on the item and destination as to which is the most economical. If you have a preference then we should be able to accommodate it (but we may need to pass on any additional costs) - just let us know what you need.
